5 Tips for a Successful Breast Lift Recovery

Posted in Breast Lift

3 Min Read

Many women choose to have a breast lift when they have noticed their breasts begin to sag and droop, which could be from factors like pregnancy, breastfeeding, age, genetics, or weight gain.

A breast lift raises the breasts naturally by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to support the new breast structure.

It is important to note that some women may combine their breast lift procedure with breast augmentation or breast reduction, which will alter the recovery time.

What Is the Recovery Process Like After a Breast Lift?

Dr. Calabria offers the laser-assisted breast lift, where the skin is de-epithelialized with a CO2 laser, and then the skin is used to support the breast tissue.

This technique is effective and creates natural, perkier breasts. Despite the breast lift technique chosen, you will be required to follow instructions to ensure a quick and healthy healing process.

Here are 5 tips to ensure your breast lift recovery is a smooth experience:

1. Arrange a Ride Home From the Hospital

Breast lift surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure and under general anesthesia, local anesthesia, or intravenous sedation.

It is necessary to arrange a ride home from the hospital following your procedure, as you may still be experiencing mild discomfort. You may also need someone to watch over you the first night you are home.

2. Wear a Sports Bra to Minimize Swelling

You will experience mild bruising and swelling throughout your recovery. Your plastic surgeon will wrap your breasts with a compression garment or place them in a surgical bra after the surgery to aid the healing process.

It is important to wear a sports bra to help minimize swelling and speed up the recovery process.

3. Sleep on Your Back

To help speed up the recovery process, you should sleep on your back with your torso at a 25- to 45-degree angle to your legs.

This will ensure no pressure is being placed on your incision sites interfering with the recovery process.

4. Ask for Advice From Your Plastic Surgeon if Needed

Dr. Calabria will be there to provide you with post-operative instructions following your procedure. If you come across any concerns or have questions during your recovery, you can call our office.

5. Allow Yourself Time to Heal

Most patients return to work within a week and can resume their daily activities.  It is important to understand this recovery period will depend greatly on each patient’s individual surgical experience and the procedures they undergo.

You should refrain from strenuous activities and sexual intercourse until cleared by your doctor.

The recovery process can only progress if you give yourself ample enough time to heal before jumping back into your normal schedule.
