The Abdomino-advancing-plasty

A new approach

The abdomino-advancing plasty is a procedure pioneered by Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon Dr. Renato Calabria.

Traditional abdominoplasty or tummy tuck usually leaves an unattractive scar and it can be very hard to recover from.Also the post operative course could be complicated by a seroma which is a collection of fluid in side the abdomen that could require drainage.

The new procedure has a shorter recuperation time, delivers a more sculpted look, more skin can be removed and, most importantly, minimizes the scars.

The abdomino-advancing plasty is performed trough a low cut bikini incision. The skin undermining is much more extensive then traditional one. This allows recruiting more of the excess skin which eventually will be removed. The muscles are tight trough two consecutive lines of sutures which also enhance the definition of the abdomen. At this point in the traditional tummy tuck the excess skin is removed, tension is applied to the incision and the skin edges are closed; this method usually generates a scar that often tends to "keloid" or becomes hypertrophic.

The skin in the abdomino-advancing plasty is re draped but then key sutures are placed from the subcutaneous tissue to the muscle fascia as the skin is pulled down Every key suture carries some of the tension that traditionally was placed on the incision, so by dispersing the tension trough out all the key sutures and by advancing the skin and pulling it down as the sutures are placed, no tension is allowed on the low abdominal incision and more skin is excised. Further more a more sculpted shape of the abdomen is obtained and the abdominal scar has a chance to heal much better minimizing the risks of keloid and hypertrophic scarring. Because all the potential dead space between the skin and the abdominal wall that is present with the traditional tummy tuck is avoided by the multiple key sutures, there is much less probability that post operatively the patient could develop a seroma formation ( collection of fluid) that could delay the healing and may require drainage.

The abdomino-advancing -plasty delivers a much better result then a traditional tummy tuck as far as shape, skin excised and post operative complications.
