Lip Augmentation: What Is New

Barely the fact that there is more then one technique available to accomplish the goal of fuller lips is an indication that there is no simple answer to the problem.

It appears, though, that with the introduction of more fillers we can at least achieve a more permanent result. Some of the semi permanent fillers may have side effects, so exercise is recommended. That is the reason why in my practice, I don’t jump on the first bandwagon without previously have tested fillers.

Collagen remains an easy fix solution for a quick fix (before the Oscar night ETC.) It is fairly risk free and easy to use after adequate testing for allergy.
Radiance is a more permanent filler (up to 3 years). It tends to be a little harder to use and if injected too superficially may cause some irregularities. It does not require any testing. Restylane and Perlane have not been FDA approved yet. They appear to be promising but also may not last as long as you think.

Fat grafting remains a good option, especially if you having something out done: it is very natural especially if used in combination on the cheek areas. At least 30% should last permanently.

The lip can also been augmented trough an incision on the lip borders with excellent results: be aware of the minuscule scar.
