Facial Implants: The Computer Imaging Approach
Augmentation of the facial skeleton is an important part of the facial rejuvenation and it is often overlooked by both surgeon and patient. When the facial anatomy is weak (chin, cheeks) the equation of beauty is changed and to obtain the best result, the structural bony framework of the face needs to be corrected.
The new facial implants are designed to contour the natural anatomic structures of the face with a variety of shapes that can emphasizes regions like the jaw line, the chin, the angle of the mandible and cheeks.
Facial implants are not only recommended for younger patients; a good bone structure makes the aging face wear well: strong cheeks and jaw lines contours enhance the attractiveness of the mature face.
Our approach consist first on the state of the art digitalized computer imaging exam which will precisely guide us in the choice of implant to use and it will give the patient an exact idea of the final result
Chin Implant:
A chin implant is used to enhance the projection of a weak chin; this will also often balanced the patient's profile rendering the impression of stronger nose more in balance. Also may improve the neck contour creating a sharper angle and a more youthful look. A chin implant comes in different shape according to need of the patient. The placement of the implant is trough an incision under the chin or in the mouth and it can be done under local anesthesia. The recovery is only a few days.
Cheeks implants:
More projecting cheeks bone is very attractive. This can be easy obtained with cheeks implants. Fat grafting is also used but tends to be a less permanent solution. The cheeks implants are inserted trough a small incision in the mouth and they can be placed in a malar (more traditional) or submalar location depending on the effect that we want to create.
Angle of the Mandible Implants:
Angle of the mandible implants is used to increase projection at the angle of the mandible; a stronger jaw line is an attractive facial feature. The placement is pretty straight forward again trough an incision inside the mouth. The recovery is only a few days.
Facial implants can improve drastically the attractiveness of a face and be an important part of the facial rejuvenation process. A more balanced facial skeleton contributes dramatically to the overall results and is as important as soft tissues changes in the delicate equation of beauty making.
